WITHDRAW CARD

Obtain a Union Withdrawal Card When You Leave Your Job

Please be sure to request a Withdrawal Card if you are: laid-off, taking a leave of absence, terminated from employment, or on extended medical leave or quit your job. There is a $0.50 charge for a Withdrawal Card; however, all initiation fees and back dues must be paid before the withdrawal card is issued. Please be advised that Withdrawal Cards are in effect only for full calendar months in which you did not work in the craft. You may stop by the Union Hall or call in.

It is your responsibility to obtain a Withdrawal Card in a timely manner so that you will not be required to pay additional dues. Failure to request a Withdrawal Card may obligate you to pay back dues along with a re-initiation fee. It is also your responsibility to be certain that your employer restarts dues check–off when you return to work and inform the Union of your return date, if applicable.

In accordance with Article CVIII, Section 6(i) of the IBT Constitution, “It shall be compulsory for any active member on Withdrawal Card to deposit his Withdrawal Card immediately upon return to employment at the craft.”

WEINGARTEN RIGHTS

If you are called into a meeting with a Management or a representative of management and you have reason to believe that disciplinary action may be imposed, you have the right to have a Union Steward or Union Representative present for the duration of the meeting. Please read the statement below and contact your Steward or Business Agent immediately.

READ THIS STATEMENT TO MANAGEMENT:

“If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, or affect my personal working conditions, I request that my Union Representative, Officer, or Steward be present at the meeting. Without representation, I choose not to answer any question(s). This is my right under the U.S. Supreme Court decision called Weingarten.”

DUES

Dues Formula: 2.5x hourly rate + $4 assessment

Once your bargaining unit has elected for union representation and you have won a contract, you will have to pay union dues. Even if you voted against the union, you will still have to pay union dues because you will still receive the benefits of the union contract.

The Improvements in pay and benefits that you receive as a result of a union contract will more than offset the dues you pay. Unionized workers in our country receive superior benefits and wages up to 20-30% higher than non-unionized workers. Please remember: You will not pay union dues until you win a contract. Union membership and union dues comes only after the first contract is negotiated and agreed to by the union (employee representatives) and management and after it has been ratified by the majority of employees.

Dues is calculated using your base hourly wage and the base number of hours you work, only. Overtime hours, call-time hours, overtime income, call-time income, shift-differential, weekend-differential, and charge-pay, etc., are not included.
